The Travers Stakes

The Travers Stakes is one of the biggest events during the Saratoga meet. It attracts some of the best talent in the country; this year is no exception. With both Stay Thirsty, and Shackleford scheduled to compete, this year’s Travers looks like it will be a great one. Stay Thirsty was this year’s runner up in the Belmont Stakes while Shackleford won the Preakness—both of these horses will be vying for the public’s favor. Other contenders for Saturday’s Travers Stakes include Rattlesnake Bridge, Bowman’s Causeway, J W Blue, and Ruler on Ice, who won the Belmont Stakes in an upset back in early June. Coil, another top horse who was being geared toward the Travers, will probably not be entered in the race due to a poor workout performance his connections announced recently.

The Travers Stakes are scheduled to be held at Saratoga on Saturday, August 27th. Another key Grade 1 race, the King’s Bishop, is also scheduled to be held at Saratoga this day. Uncle Mo will be making his long awaited return for this race, according to reports. Uncle Mo’s last race was April 9th; he missed the entire Triple Crown due to a liver disease earlier this year.
