The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company held their annual yearling sale this past week. Despite the nation’s poor economic outlook, yearling sales were up for all three sessions of the auction. A total of 137 yearlings were sold for a total of over $4.8 million during the select session. The other two open sessions grossed about $4.2 million with a total of 478 yearlings sold. This marked an 11 percent increase in gross intake from last year’s open sessions where 541 yearlings were sold.

The Lexington, Kentucky event was seen as a success in an industry where horse sales have been on the decline. Although fewer horses were sold this year, profits were up, indicating that the horse breeding business is alive and well.
