Rachel Alexandra to Retire

The 2009 Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra, retired today after an impressive career that included a victory in the Preakness Stakes. The much hyped showdown that many wanted to see against 18-0 Zenyatta has come to an end because of her retirement. 2010 was a disappointing year for Rachel, as she won only 2 out of 5 races. Her owners decided that it was time to reward her hard work with a “less stressful life.”

The excitement that Rachel generated will not cease just because she has retired. Her owners plan on breeding her with Curlin, the 2007 and 2008 Horse of the Year. These two super-horses will undoubtedly sire amazing racers. Four years down the road, we will probably be watching their offspring in the Triple Crown races.
