Rachel Alexandra Takes on Monmouth Park

Rachel Alexandra will be racing today at Monmouth Park in the $400,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes where she appears to be a huge favorite. The four year old filly has finished 2nd in her last two races, but closed out 2009 with an 8 – 0 record. Her morning line was 1 – 9, and it wouldn’t surprise me if she went down to 1 – 10.

Although this doesn’t seem like a great bet, it creates an interesting opportunity. Since the Lady’s Secret is the 11th race of the day at Monmouth, the race appears as the 3rd race in the late Pick 4. By reducing the possible outcomes from 8,470 to 1,210, the outcome becomes seven times more favorable for the savvy bettor.

If Rachel’s overwhelming presence creates an overlay in some of the better horses in the field, a few simple win bets might be in order so you can hedge your bets.

The track was also hoping to get the undefeated Zenyatta entered in the race, but this proved to be impossible. Instead, the purse was raised by $250,000 in order to get Rachel entered. Rachel should have no problem defeating her rivals.
