Blame Looks to Win Gold Cup

Blame HorseThe Jockey Club Gold Cup, a Grade 1 stakes race, will be held the 10th race at Belmont Park today. The big name in this race is Blame, one of the favorites to perform well at the Breeders’ Cup Classic this November. Blame has won his last five starts, all of which were graded stakes races. Most of these were won in convincing fashion; it is not uncommon for Blame to come off the far turn four or five horses wide. Blame’s main rival in this race will be Rail Trip, another superstar horse looking to get a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Rail Trip (5-2) and Haynesfield (8-1) look to be the early speed in this race. But with Beyer speed figures for recent races well below Blame’s, it will be difficult to maintain their early leads. Blame has run a 100 or better in each of his last seven races, reaching as high as 111. Rail Trip’s best figure is 111 as well, but does not have the same consistency that Blame has.

If all goes according to plan, this will be a close race between Blame and Rail Trip, but count on Blame’s superior finishing speed to win the day.
