An Interesting Bloodline

Zenyatta’s team recently announced that the first horse she would be bred to is the champion Bernardini. For pedigree hounds, this pairing is big news. Not only was Bernardini ranked as the top earning freshmen sire of 2010, his sire is the great A.P.Indy. A.P. won the Breeders’ Cup Classic as well as the Belmont Stakes as a three year old. But A.P. Indy is more famous for his bloodlines. He was sired by Seattle Slew, the Triple Crown winner. His damsire (the sire of his mother) was the great Secretariat.

This means that if a foal is conceived, it will have both Zenyatta and Secretariat’s bloodlines. If you bet horses based upon pedigree, you cannot have a more sure bet than this potential foal. Who knows, in three and a half years, we might be staring at the next Triple Crown champion.
