2011 Preakness Preview

The Preakness is held annually two weeks after the Kentucky Derby at the Pimlico racetrack in Maryland. This year’s Preakness is already shaping up to be a much different race than the Kentucky Derby, though. 1/16th of a mile shorter than the Derby, the Preakness is the second leg of the Triple Crown. The field for this upcoming leg, however, is shaping up to look very different than the Kentucky Derby. As of now, only five Derby horses are being pointed toward the Preakness. Most notable of these is the Kentucky Derby champion, Animal Kingdom. Also rans in the Derby that are expected to run in the Preakness are Dialed In (8th), Mucho Macho Man (3rd), Santiva (6th), and Shackleford (4th). These horses can all be bet on at Twinspires which offers you a great betting solution.

Dialed In was the favorite going into the May 7th race at Churchill Downs. However, his performance at the Pimlico track come Preakness day will be even more scrutinized than his flop in the Derby thanks to the fact that Dialed In is aiming toward a $5.5 million dollar bonus. MI Developments offered this bonus for the first time this year to any horse that could win two Derby prep races sponsored by MI Developments, plus the Preakness. Dialed In won the Holy Bull and the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park earlier this year.
